Hickstead Trophy for Horse of the Year, Equine Canada

The HICKSTEAD Trophy

Equine Canada's Horse of the Year Trophy
Commissioned by Equine Canada

It has been a tremendous honour and an emotional undertaking to create the Hickstead Trophy to commemorate Hickstead as Equine Canada's Horse of the Year for 2011. The partnership between Eric Lamaze and Hickstead was exceptional and inspiring to me as an artist and one who loves horses. The extraordinary achievements of Hickstead and Eric are unparalleled and include the 2008 Olympics when they won the Individual Gold Medal and helped Canada to capture the Team Silver. In 2007 and 2011 they won Spruce Meadows “Masters” Tournament, the $1 million CN International, which brought them the richest grand prix event in the world.
- With heartfelt gratitude - Mary

The Janine Klein Memorial Trophy was created in memory of my dear friend Janine Klein. She was like a sister to me, a talented dressage rider and a true horseman in every sense.

Janine was an individual that saw "possibilities" not obstacles, and after she moved from California to Bucks County Pa., she convinced me to do the same.

She assured me that I would be able to fulfill my dream of having my horses at home and that with the extensive artist community in Bucks County; it would be the perfect place for me to pursue my sculpture career full-time. She was an exceptionally kind human being, whose greatest strength was to empower others to be the best that they could be.

Below is a marketing piece she created during a team exercise at Glaxo Smith Kline and it represented her approach in life.

Janine's beautiful horse Machu Picchu is here at home with me.
